Memories - Jam tarts: Nana can we make something? the children used to say. Mum would reply of course we can - let’s go and wash our hands. The flour came out, all over the floor too, never mind, Nana would say. Nan will sort that out later, she was never fazed about mess. In fact one of her sayings was - it will sort out in the wash. Look what we’ve made mummy, Nana laughing because she had to try these so called jam tarts which were handled so much they resembled grubby little blobs that were tough to eat as the jam had boiled out. The children would ask “ are they nice nana” she would say yes they are delicious. Who’s tasted best - Nan would answer you all did very well! We had many laughs together, she was the type of mother in law who wanted to be involved and played an active part in her grandchildren’s lives. Nan was an inspiration, one that I hope to pass onto my own grandchildren as I know how much pleasure it gives to the grandmother and her grandchildren. Mum was a rock as our children grew up, she always had time for them - not forgetting the chocolates she always had for them in her handbag! Mum & Dad used to come for tea sometimes and look after the children, afterwards Mum always said “ that was nice” which became her catchphrase. Loving memories Shirley
